carousel players’ youth committee

Are you 14-17 years old?
Are you interested in learning more about the theatre industry?
If so, Carousel Players’ Youth Committee is for you!

What is the Youth Committee?

As a part of the Youth Committee, you will have the opportunity to help Carousel Players with different activities, meet with other people interested in theatre, and learn about how Carousel Players, a theatre for young audiences, works. You will meet with the other members of the committee and Carousel Players staff to get to know each other, discuss activities, and learn about Carousel Players and theatre.

Activities you will help with include volunteering at Carousel’s shows and outreach events when they are local to you, reading and discussing plays with the Artistic Director, acting as ambassadors for Carousel Players back to your communities or schools, and more! Additionally, the time you spend with Carousel Players will count towards your high school community service hours. You will also have the opportunity, if you desire, to develop skills such as communication, decision-making, public speaking, confidence, and leadership.

Who can apply?

Niagara residents aged 14 to 17 who have a passion for theatre.

How often does the committee meet?

The Committee will meet once a month for 2 hours from October through May. The first meeting with be in mid-October.

Transportation assistance (e.g. transit tickets, carpool arrangements) for getting to and from the meetings is available.

You will have the opportunity to participate in activities outside of monthly meetings that will also count towards your community service hours, which will be discussed on a case-by-case basis and will never exceed 5 hours per month.

Do I need to have a resume and cover letter to apply?

When are applications due?

Applications are due by Monday, October 3rd at 11:59pm.

What happens after I submit my application?

Once you submit your application, Carousel Players staff will look over your answers and call you to schedule a phone or video conversation. The interview questions will be sent to you before your meeting so you will have time to prepare.

Carousel Players is seeking new Board Members

The Carousel Players Board of Directors is seeking new members from the Niagara Region. There are currently three vacancies on the Board.

Who is this opportunity for?

We are looking for people who are interested in helping Carousel Players to

  • Better the lives of children through creativity and the arts
  • Share the benefits of live theatre with schools and community audiences
  • Build a Niagara-wide network of arts education programs for children and youth
  • Strengthen and/or build Carousel Players’ public presence in the Niagara Region’s many geographic and cultural communities
  • Set goals and create plans for Carousel Players’ next decade

Carousel Players believes that it is the company’s responsibility to provide an environment where every Board Member is supported in bringing their full, authentic selves to the work. Our current Board membership includes students, retirees, professionals, educators, entrepreneurs, and arts workers. There are Directors in their twenties, in their seventies, and all decades in between. We do not require specific education or work experience, but instead seek Directors with an interest in our work and a desire to contribute to the Niagara community.

What is the commitment?

A Director of the Board for Carousel Players is asked to

  • Attend 6 bi-monthly Board meetings, typically 90 minute sessions
  • Attend the Annual General Meeting in the Fall
  • Read all reports provided in advance of meetings
  • Participate in analysis of and provide feedback on programming and operating plans
  • Join one Committee of the Board
  • Support the company’s leadership and staff
  • Advocate for and promote the company’s work
