Carousel in the Communityfamily fun in the downtown core
The Carousel Players Community Celebrations are a time for families, and particularly children, re-engage with their community in a safe and comfortable way. The goal is to safely bring families together to experience live arts activities created especially for the COVID times we are living in.
The Celebrations begin with the easily distanced event of a scavenger hunt before progressing to more interactive activities through the winter and spring. The Carousel Players Community Celebrations project is made up of five events.
FOR AGES 4 AND UP
At-Home Adventures follows George and Martha, Carousel Players’ beloved hippopotamus puppets designed by Shawn Kettner for a previous production adapted from the George and Martha books by James Marshall. The campaign features a series of guessing game posts on our Facebook and Instagram (@carouselplayers) where George and Martha engage with St Catharines businesses while remaining safely at home.
You are encouraged to guess which business George and Martha got their items from and, two days later, the ‘reveal’ post tells all, with a special shout out to that particular business. They may be taking part in online learning, enjoying some curbside pick up from one of our outstanding restaurants, or doing a fun at-home activity with items they purchased from a local business.
Carousel Players is collaborating with artists to create a series of chalk art drawings throughout the downtown core. Families will follow the path of chalk art as a story emerges, costumed actors and puppets will be present along the way for families to interact with! Art-based games and activities will be set up along the route as well!
The event will include a scavenger hunt that families can be a part of. Follow the clues and win easter egg prizes! Each attendee will bring home a spring seed for your very own garden!
To ensure a safe event for all, there will be timed entrances, limited number of participants, and specific traffic flow throughout the event.
Carousel Players has hidden costumes, puppets and set pieces from our past shows in local storefronts and inside various downtown establishments. Can you find them all?
Families are encouraged to stop by local businesses to find all of the items on our scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt will remain in place for several weeks, so you’ll have time to track every one down. You can download our handy Hunt Hints scavenger hunt map to help find all the surprises.
Families who find all the items will be entered in a draw win a prize!
Scavenger Hunt STC runs from September 25 – October 25, 2020
