Carousel Players has been dedicated to bringing educational, professional theatre shows to schools for over 50 years as a tool to support and encourage learning in an exciting and memorable format. This coming season we are presenting the theme of nurture, with all our stories guiding audiences to look around at the world, at nature, at other people and ask: how can I help? What can I give?
What value does bringing a show to my school have for my students? After years of separation and isolation driven by a need to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic it is more important now than ever that we bring students together in a shared experience to rekindle the sense of community that is strengthened through unique communal experiences such as live theatre. Performance days build long lasting memories for students. Additionally, performances help students retain educational information, improve communication skills, promote emotional wellness, increase academic performance and engagement, and much more.
We believe so strongly in the emotional, educational, and communal benefits of live performances that we have made it even easier to bring our award-winning theatre to your students.
No Cancellation Fees – “You don’t pay until you see the play!” That means no down payments, no booking fees, no admin fees, and absolutely no loss of precious school funds due to cancellations.
No Organizing Field Trips – Carousel Players is a touring company and we come directly to your school gymnasium. You can even invite a neighbouring school over and share the experience with even more young people in your community.
No Extra Lesson Planning – All of our productions come with educational resources and curriculum connections so there is no extra work for any of your school staff and educators.
Preparing for Our Visit
Below is the structure we follow in bringing theatre to your students. A copy of this list will be sent to all schools that book a show.
Arrival Time
We will arrive approximately 75 minutes prior to the performance. At the time of our arrival we will need free and exclusive access to the gym. We also ask that any gates, chains, doors, etc., on the driving route to the gym be unlocked.
Student Help
We do not require student helpers and request that there are no students in the gym during our set-up and tear-down time.
Performance Area and Seating
We require a performance area with 25′ x 25′ of floor space and a minimum ceiling height of 12′.
We require a clean floor, cleared of all equipment. Please raise basketball nets if possible.
Students will be seated on the floor.
We require chairs or benches in the gym for seating for teachers and school staff. These can be left to the side of the gym for us to set up on the performance day.
Dressing Rooms
We will need 2 dressing rooms, gym change rooms, or other suitable changing areas. If possible, this room should be able to be locked during the presentation.
Bells, Announcements, Noises
If possible, the bells and/or announcements should be turned off in the gym for the duration of the performance.
Also if possible, any overhead fans should be turned off.
Visiting Schools
If a neighbouring school will be attending the performance we ask that their students be at your school 15 minutes prior to the performance. Please make sure that we are aware if another school is attending.
Pictures / Videos
During the play NO PHOTOGRAPHS may be taken.
If your school is interested in having any photos taken when the play is finished, our Stage Manager would be happy to arrange for any photos.
Please, NO VIDEO RECORDING at any time.
